VICTORIAN FESTIVAL

Sunday 26- Thursday 30 July 2009

Please dress up in Victorian style Costume whenever possible (we understand it may not be practical all the time!)

Sunday 26th July 2009

10:30am
Victorian Sunday morning worship at Bethany Presbyterian Church including traditional hymns and a specially invited "Fire and Brimstone" preacher. Queen Victoria will also be in attendance.

Afternoon
The rest of Sunday events will take place on Tywyn Promenade in the vicinty of the 1897 shelter;

2 till 3pm
The Tywyn Silver Band will play on the promenade while young and old are invited to enter a Beach Art competition.

3:00pm ish
Victorian costume promenaders will stage a Tea Party and a light hearted Dog Show follows at 3:30pm

An exhibition Croquet match will take palce during the afternoon on the lawn opposite the Promenade, weather permitting.

5:00pm
A rousing open-air Songs of Praise service on the promenade. (in Ebeneser Chapel if really wet)

Monday 27th July 2009

10:45 a.m Takes place on the Talyllyn Railway
Visit the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum (free admission) for a Dramatised Conducted tour by Mr Ian Evans and Company. Coffee and delicacies available in “The Porter's Platter”.

1pm - 4pm Takes place on the Talyllyn Railway
Sample a selection of crafts at Abergynolwyn station with a selection of handcrafted items for sale and the chance to try a new craft.

2:30 p.m
A splendid Victorian Tea Dance with David Redfern at the Famous Tywyn Wurlitzer, Neuadd Pendre. Admission £5, includes tempting sandwiches and cakes

Evening Takes place on the Talyllyn Railway
Arrive at Wharf Station by 6:30 p.m to join a Murder Mystery on the Talyllyn Railway – Sleuths of all ages invited. Special fares. Not too gory, and you'll be back by 10pm ! Advance booking essential. Contact us

Tuesday 28th July 2009

10.30 a.m
Join Mr Robert Elliott at Bethel Vestry, Neptune Road for his celebrated Victorian Schoolroom. (latecomers may be caned!) This will be followed by a School Treat in the form of a picnic party on the lawn outside – or indoors in the event of bad weather.A modest admission charge will be made.

Evening Takes place on the Talyllyn Railway
Join us at Wharf Station for the traditional 7.15pm Costume train and 7.35pm Modern dress train which will convey you to Abergynolwyn to hear Seindorf Arian Abergynolwyn Silver Band. Special fares; refreshments for sale;

Wednesday 29th July 2009

10:45 a.m Takes place on the Talyllyn Railway

Afternoon
From 12 noon until around 5 p.m Tywyn Silver Band, the Street Organ “Astrid” and other Artistes will entertain in the High Street, and local Charities will have stalls selling all manner of tempting items.

Evening
An entertaing illustrated lecture on a Victorian topic will be given by Mr Peter Goodall of Swansea Gaol in the Ebeneser Chapel Vestry.

Thursday 31st July 2008

3:00pm
You are invited to a Welsh tea prepared by the ladies of Tywyn's Women's Institute at Bethel Chapel Vestry. Admission £3.50. Queen Victoria will be in attendance.

Evening
come and bring the Festival to a close at Neuadd Pendre – doors open 7 p.m for 7.30 – with our annual concert by the Talyllyn Railway Amateur Musical Players (TRAMPS), a Grand Raffle and the presentation of prizes. Admission £4, children £1.

All Week

Throughout the week there will be the traditional "Odd One Out" Competition throughout the town. Entry forms are available from the Tourist Information Centre.

The organisers reserve the right to vary the programme in the event of unforseen circumstances.
