London Area Group

August 2010

The Group Annual Business Meeting will be held on Monday 4th October at the London Underground Headquarters, 55 Broadway, starting at 18.00. If you want to attend then please contact our Area Group Secretary Jeff Nettleton for details of how to get in. The ABM should last about twenty minutes and be followed by the October Committee meeting.

Steampipes will be held this year on Monday 29th November at The Friends House in Euston Road, starting at 19.00 hrs. Ticket prices have been kept at 2009 levels (£9 for adults and £4.50 for under 16’s). Rob Foxon will once again compere the show with Len Rawle on the organ.

The films we have selected for you this year include Steam over Arthur’s Pass in New Zealand, London Termini in the 1920’s, special features on the W&L from 1956 and 1961, the reopening of the Bluebell Railway in 1960 and Holidays in Wales from 1960. There will be the usual selection of cartoon and comedy films.

The box office is now open and bookings should be sent to: R Patenall, Dept. TRA), 10 Greta House, 60 Hardy Road, Blackheath, London SE3 7PA. Payment must be by cheque made payable to “Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society” and please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope for the return of your tickets. A booking form will also appear in the September edition of the Talyllyn News

The Christmas Dinner will be on Monday 6th December at the Betjeman Arms restaurant at St Pancras International station, starting at 18.00 hrs. Advanced booking is essential and Tony Randall has agreed to co-ordinate the bookings, so please contact Tony if you wish to attend.

The Area Group Outing to the Bluebell Railway back in May was a great success. It was a particular pleasure to see long service member Donald Kneedwell on the trip. The weather certainly helped the day and the trains were well loaded.

Eric Nicholass.
